I glean and collect abandoned materials, traces, clues to some previous
human activity. I assemble these fragments manually and wait for them
to come to a new life; it’s a “Frankensteinian” practice.
I work with materials that have a particular way of reacting to light
through transparency and reflection. This ability of translucent material
to become invisible and vibrate upon contact with light allows me to
investigate the notions of lightness and movement.
Bauxity is a factory window overlooking a suspended space that brings
together, in an almost aleatory composition, plastics and aluminium
that I collected during my walks.
Once their wrapping function is extinguished, these artificial materials
become like vacant snakes’ skins; they journey around the earth, bound
by its gravity.
The fragments I choose are floating in a time of oblivion. By prolonging
this moment of fall, of distancing, I implement a process of transformation.
This dilated process of falling metamorphoses itself into a path that
leads these objects towards a new status, inviting them to speak of their
former existence while embracing their potential for rebirth.
From containing nourishment, they become the nourishing objects of
my artistic practice.
Bauxity is a constellation-like testimony of human passage, showing
the habits and customs of our era. A handful of shiny confetti in the air
giving back preciousness to the materials that are thrown away in our
everyday cosmic dance of waste.
The title recalls the name of the rock from which aluminum is extracted,
we find this mineral here, but in another form.
