Anna Zanichelli (1992, Reggio Emilia, IT) is a visual artist based in Brussels. She experiments with matter, light, and time. Central to her practice is the act of gleaning, a process akin to archaeological excavation of the contemporary world. She salvages abandoned materials and assembled it into new configurations. This “Frankensteinian” practice breathes new life into discarded fragments, inviting them to speak of their former existence while embracing their potential for rebirth.
Zanichelli works with materials that have a particular way of reacting to light through transparency and reflection. This ability of translucent material to become invisible and vibrate upon contact with light allows me to investigate the notions of lightness and movement.
Zanichelli explores the aesthetic connections between water and waterproof materials, like plastics, glass, and metals. She traces the movements of these abandoned bodies journeying around the earth, bound by its gravity. Her installations are imbued with a profound sense of stillness; echoing the quietude of an animate object, they stand as silent witnesses to the passage of time.
